Over the past several years Shields Manufacturing has expanded capacity and capabilities, culminating in a 90,700 sq. ft. purpose designed facility in Tualatin, Oregon. Shields houses over 60 machines and has 183 employees.

Our electro-mechanical assembly team has the capability, skills and experience to assemble your entire custom product. Or we can provide you with a finished sub-assembly, including testing for final integration into your CNC machined components.
Using purchased CNC machined components per your specifications, we will provide you with the highest quality finished assemblies. You get extremely competitive pricing and excellent quality from our own precision machine shop.
Facilities and Capabilities
Our facility has three class 1000 clean rooms with class 100 flow benches.
Our test and measurement equipment list includes a Zygo Interferometer, a lens centering station and an optical test bench used for alignments.
Optical & Opto-Mechanical Assembly
We have experience in building optical assemblies from the DUV to IR wavelengths. We take quality very seriously, keeping records of lots and serials numbers, and providing certificates of conformance on request.
We also offer complete assembly for mechanical and electro mechanical assemblies with the same high standards as our opto-mechanical department. We often collaborate with our customers from prototype to end-of life for their custom components. This includes assistance in the design and build of custom test benches for use in product that we build.
Plastic Fabrication
When starting a new CNC plastic fabrication project, plastic CNC milled prototype parts ensure a component’s design is sound. For most CNC milled plastic components a CNC machined prototype will provide what is needed for testing.
The CNC machine process is perfect if you need small runs, so it may be a cost effective route for your budget.

When Shields decided to apply for ISO registration, we felt it was important that our management be involved in every step of the process. In 2003 we were certified ISO 9001 by ITS Intertek. In our registration audit we had zero non-conformances. Since then, in our surveillance and recertification audits, we’ve had no major non-conformances. In 2019 Shields applied and became certified in AS9100D with TUV. The management team felt is was vital to expand our proven quality track record in ISO9001 and enhance our quality certifications to include the Aerospace standard.
